Official Signing with Laizhou China
On November 2004 an official signing ceremony took place recognizing the sister school relationship between Shaolin Martial
Arts school in South Africa, and the Zhonghua Martial Arts School of Laizhou China.
The signing took place at the Zhonghua School in China and the two parties were represented by Master Li Mingzhi,
the headmaster of the Zhonghua Martial Arts School and Sifu Bruce Sebregts , son of Grandmaster Leo Sebregts.
The signing heralds a new beginning for South African martial arts students, including them in the largest international
development of Chinese martial arts. It also opens the way for cultural exchange and trade between China and South Africa.
For the past thirty years Grandmaster Leo Sebregts has been involved in promoting Chinese martial arts and introducing it to South African students.
He has been awarded many international awards from both the Martial Arts Hall of Fame and the International Kung Fu federation such as Best promoter, International outstanding Master, Golden Life achievement award, Best performer for the Masters demonstration.
Grandmaster Leo Sebregts has been inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame as a professor of Martial Arts,
executive board member and judge. He was also a assistant chief judge at the Jinan International Wushu competition
in China.
The Shaolin Martial Arts centre has six schools in South Africa and is planning on opening two more in 2005.
Their goal is to have a new martial arts centre where advanced learning of martial arts can be achieved in South Africa.
This will enable South African students to participate in International competitions with more skill gaining recognition
and preparing them for participation in the Olympic Games in 2008.
Zhonghua martial arts school has been open since 1992 and has trained more than 2900 students.
It has a 162 specialized teachers and excellent coaches. They have sister Schools in Canada, USA, France,
Israel, Japan, South Korea and now also in South Africa. South Africa will thus have access to some of the best
instructors from the Zhonghua Martial Arts School.
